Many of us researchers are enticed by the idea of working in data science. More and more new opportunities are cropping up for applying our hard-earned scientific knowledge to problems that people are willing to pay to solve. Pascal Hecker, a former Neuroscience student from Göttingen, talks about his journey from academia to industry to a combination of both at audEERING - a company that uses machine learning to dissect voice patterns as markers for neurodegenerative diseases.
Expansion microscopy is a new technique that allows to image at nanoscale resolution with conventional microscopes. Sven Truckenbrodt, a postdoctoral researcher at IST Austria, developed a method to expand biological samples 10 times their normal size. Sven explains how the technique works and why it can save us money on fancy microscopes.
